National Business Group on Health Awards Programs
The National Health System Patient Safety Leadership Award is sponsored by the National Business Group on Health and the VHA Foundation to recognize one or more U.S. health systems for exemplary patient safety practices and performance (to see press release click here). For details on the award criteria please click here. Hospital system members of NBGH are encouraged to consider applying for this award. Employer members may share this information with hospital systems in their own regions and use the criteria to discuss patient safety concerns, especially with their highest volume providers. To apply for the award, hospital systems should contact Chloe Boyer at VHA Foundation 972-830-0422 or cboyer@vha.org to request a code (required for access to the online application). Applications for 2008, the inaugural year of the award program, are due August 21, 2008 and winners will be announced December 2, 2008.
Award for Excellence and Innovation in Value Purchasing
Winners are individuals, organizations or programs that:
- Encourage the efficient or cost-effective use of health care resources in addition to improving quality and affordability.
- Encourage excellent practices that are started by or involve large employers;
- Have a demonstrated track record of increasing value in health care through superior purchasing practices or have developed approaches, methodologies and tools that enable outstanding health benefit management practices.
The Business Group wants to provide positive reinforcement for those people doing the right things in health care purchasing. We hope our award will motivate corporations to be more active in supporting creative, innovative value purchasing initiatives.

Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles Awards
The Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles Award acknowledges and rewards those organizations that apply creative, comprehensive solutions to improving the health of employees, its more important purpose is to serve as a catalyst for action.
Since 2005, 60 companies have won awards for their programs, with many companies receiving awards in successive years.

Behavioral Health Awards: Employer Implementation & Best Practices
New in 2007, the Behavioral Health Awards program was established to recognize employers that develop, implement, and evaluate innovative behavioral health benefits and programs to improve an employer's business operations and the health of beneficiaries.
Five companies and six programs were honored. The award-winning programs address prevention, early intervention, treatment, disease management, return-to-work issues, and disability management. Award winning programs are featured as case-studies in an issue brief on employer innovation in behavioral health.
