Benchmarking

In this highly competitive marketplace, our members often struggle with how to efficiently and effectively offer their employees the most value from their benefits. One of the best ways to meet this goal is by benchmarking your own company against peers. The Business Group serves our members' benchmarking and data needs in several ways.

Surveys

One of the values of membership in NBGH is the ability to learn from colleagues within other organizations who face the same challenges you do. Member surveys are a key way to gather information for benchmarking. These include:
  • Quick Surveys provide an opportunity for members to poll other members on particular targeted issues. Survey results are available immediately to participants and reports are posted on the website with other topic resources.

  • Plan Design Survey is an annual opportunity for members to share their anticipated plan design changes for the upcoming year. This survey is launched each spring, with preliminary results presented at the June Employer Summit on Health Care Costs and Solutions.

  • In-Depth Surveys: Surveys on key health issues are designed to gather in-depth information for our members to utilize.

  • Employee Surveys: The Business Group undertakes surveys of employees of large employers to understand how employees approach a variety of topics related to their health benefits. Our most recent survey, conducted in the fall of 2007 surveyed approximately 1,500 employees of large employers regarding how they gather and utilize medical information in their health care decision making.

Employees and Health Care Decision Making Supplemental Report (January 2008)

  • Collaborative Surveys:
    • The NBGH/Watson Wyatt Worldwide Employer Survey on Purchasing Value in Healthcare: To help determine how employers are using incentives, their thoughts on health care reform and the latest trends in consumer-directed health plans and health management programs, NBGH/Watson Wyatt Worldwide conduct an annual employer survey. The 2008 results are now available.
