Summary of Duties

The Lead Benefit Analyst position supports the benefit managers in the strategy, vendor management, and any needed administration of the Amtrak benefit programs including Medical, Dental, Vision, Prescription, Life Insurance (and not currently in scope but stake-holder on Disability, EAP, & Wellbeing as needed). The position involves, but is not limited to: benchmarking, reviewing strategy, leveraging benefits data warehouse, resolving benefit inquiries, running and analyzing health benefits reporting, and performing benefit-related reconciliations. In addition, the job duties also include ensuring accurate benefits data for proper implementation of Amtrak benefit policies.

Essential Functions

  • Serves as a subject matter expert for researching benefit options and plan designs, pricing and contribution strategy, procurement and implementation.
  • Assists in leveraging self-service tools such as the benefits data warehouse (ex: benchmarking (ex: Aon SpecSelect), and other resources (webinars, podcasts, articles) and trade groups to evaluate current and future strategy.
  • Establishes and helps manage appropriate vendor meetings for ongoing escalation, operations (ex: weekly, monthly) and strategic (ex: quarterly, annual)
  • Vendor liaison to ensure KPIs, SLAs, PGs are being managed and any new projects are being implemented appropriately (ex: new care program, change in deductibles, coinsurance, etc…)
  • Leads in the implementation and administration of employee benefit programs such as medical, dental, vision and life insurance plans.
  • Assists Benefit COEs with problem resolution and handles benefits inquiries and escalations to ensure quick, equitable, and courteous resolution.
  • Utilize certain benefit systems to prepare required participant communications.
  • Develops written materials to document processes, provide reference materials and convey information to appropriate parties.
  • Collaborates with COEs and IT team regarding HR SAP and benefit processes and process improvements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Finance, Business Administration, or other relevant degree or equivalent combination of training and/or education and relevant work experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Must have at minimum 6 years of experience in Benefits strategy, consultation & analytics, vendor management, and/or administration or a combination of education and relevant work experience
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of benefits, vendor ecosystem, third party record keeping/administration, retirement benefits, rules, regulations and special settlements
  • Customer service focus and strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify, analyze, and resolve issues based on data or available information
  • Skilled in project management
  • Proven mathematical skills; excellent attention to detail
  • Must have strong organizational, excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to present data in a summarized and understandable manner is essential.
  • Able to prioritize and balance multiple competing tasks in a fast paced, high volume team environment
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

Preferred Qualifications

  • 8 years of relevant work experience
  • Master's Degree in Business Administration, HR
  • CEBS and/or PHR Certification
  • Experience with SAP or other Human Resource Information Systems

Communications and Interpersonal Skills

  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
