Seventy large employer members of Business Group on Health responded to this survey, conducted between January 20 and January 27, 2022. The purpose of this survey is to evaluate how large employers are responding to two COVID-19 policies that were implemented in January 2022: 1) the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) update to quarantine/isolation recommendations and 2) coverage requirements for OTC (over-the-counter) COVID-19 tests.

Key Takeaways

  • Half of employers still offer quarantine leave/pay. Most commonly, it’s provided to employees who test positive for COVID or are symptomatic after being exposed at work.
  • 10 days is the most common duration of quarantine leave. About half place limits on the number of times an employee can take quarantine leave; half don’t have any limits.
  • 83% of employers currently offer, or will offer soon, direct coverage of OTC COVID-19 tests. The most common approach is to cover the test through the pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) via a single retailer that allows for both online and in-person purchases.
